Markets, accas and features
Football Betting in Nigeria
Football is what most Nigerians bet on, from the Premier League to the Super Eagles. This guide explains the main markets, how accumulators really work and which bookmaker features protect a slip that goes one leg short.
The Main Football Markets
| Market | You win if | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| 1X2 | You pick the right result: home win (1), draw (X) or away win (2) | The most popular market on every Nigerian site |
| Double chance | One of two results happens: 1X, 12 or X2 | Lower odds, fewer losing legs in an acca |
| GG / NG | Both teams score (GG) or at least one does not (NG) | The result does not matter |
| Over / Under 2.5 | The match has 3 or more goals (over) or 2 or fewer (under) | Also offered at 0.5, 1.5, 3.5 and higher |
| Draw no bet | Your team wins; a draw returns your stake | Safer than 1X2 at lower odds |
| Handicap | Your team wins after a goal start or deficit is applied | Gives better odds on strong favourites |
| Correct score | You name the exact final score | High odds, low chance |
| HT/FT | You get both the half time and full time result right | Nine possible outcomes |
Accumulators: Big Odds, Small Chances
An accumulator (acca, or multiple) joins several selections on one slip. The odds are multiplied, so the potential return grows fast, but every leg must win.
Example. Five selections at odds of 1.50 each give total odds of 7.59. A ₦1,000 stake returns ₦7,594. But the bookmaker's odds also imply only about a 13% chance that all five win.
Each extra leg makes the slip less likely to land. That is why features that forgive one losing leg, and acca bonuses that reward more legs, are so common in Nigeria. Try your own slip in the acca calculator.
Features That Help Your Slip
Booking codes
A short code that loads a whole betslip. Tipsters share them, and you can save your own slip to place later.
2UP and 1UP
Your 1X2 pick is paid as a winner once your team leads by two goals (2UP) or one goal (1UP), even if the match ends level. SportyBet and MSport offer it.
1Cut and Flexi
SportyBet's 1Cut still pays when one selection loses; Flexi pays when you get the required number of selections right.
Multiple Plus
MSport's version of acca insurance: you still get paid even if you cut one or more legs.
Acca bonus
A percentage added to the winnings of a multiple. MSport advertises up to 1000%, starting from 2 folds.
Cash out
Settle a bet early for less than the full return, to lock in a profit or cut a loss.
Each feature has its own rules on the number of legs, the minimum odds and which markets qualify. Check them in the bookmaker's help pages before you rely on them.
Leagues and Virtual Football
Nigerian bookmakers put the English Premier League, the Champions League, LaLiga and Serie A at the top of their football menus, next to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL). Super Eagles matches and AFCON bring huge interest too.
Between real matches, many players turn to virtual football: computer simulated games every few minutes. SportyBet calls them Instant Football and Scheduled Virtuals, Bet9ja and MSport have their own versions. Results are random and fast, so set a limit before you start.
Five Tips for Smarter Football Bets
- Keep accas shortThree to five legs is easier to win than fifteen. Use the bonus as a bonus, not as the reason for the slip.
- Compare oddsThe same match can be priced differently at two bookmakers. Small differences add up over a season.
- Check team newsLine ups, injuries and rotation before cup games change the real chances.
- Be careful in playLive odds move fast. Decide your stake before kick off.
- Track your betsNote every stake and result. If the total goes down month after month, it is time to stop.
